What is the most efficient way to catch legendaries?
First, let’s give a brief definition to the word efficiency, which translates as the ratio between the result (and obviously its value for us) and the efforts to obtain it (e.g., time, pokedollars).
In other words, we researched for the less time and energy consuming strategy to catch our beloved and elusive legendaries.
So, how do I proceed?
Balls’ catch rates give us a clue. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the balls from Generation II (e.g., Heavy Ball, Fast Ball) are too “difficult” to find and generally you have a few copies available of each ball. So, we decided to focus on balls that you can easily find at the PokèMarket.
The first thing you should do is to test your luck with a Quick Ball. From Generation V Quick Balls grant you a 5× probability to catch a Pokémon if used on the first turn of a battle (1× otherwise).
From now on you have some possibilities to avoid Ultra Balls (Catch rate: 2×). Indeed, until turn 10 you could use Dusk Balls during the night (Catch rate: 3×), or Net Balls if you are facing a Water-type or Bug-type Pokémon (Catch rate: 3×). In general, Dusk Balls are more suitable as you can simply wait till night-time (in game).

Starting from turn 10 there is only one choice: Timer Balls. Indeed, this type of ball offers a 4x catch probability after 10 turns have passed since the beginning of the encounter.
Is there anything else I should do?
Yeah, using Rotom Power (Catch) during the battle will multiply your chances. Actually, the exact multiplier is not known (see here), however the catch rate seems to greatly increase. So, why not use it?
To recap, this is what you should do:
Efficency should come in handy, especially if going through the Space Muffin Nuzlocke Challenge.
